For special occasions the Royal Bavarian State Railroad painted its locomotives in royal blue to underline the special significance of these events and the locomotives provided for them. The 1910 Brussels World"s Fair was certainly such an event. And the class S 3/6 locomotive presented there corresponded to this extraordinary event in every way. A high class design, paired with the latest technology, astonished interested observers. This locomotive was a milestone, even for an era that was fascinated with progress. Specialist publications as well as the public praised "The Blue One" in superlatives - justifiably so. Viewed from today"s perspective, the S 3/6 was the first-high point of German locomotive engineering and exceeded the expectations that had been placed on it by a wide margin. Today, several class S 3/6 locomotives are still exhibited in museums and still cast their spell over viewers - as they did at the 1910 World"s Fair.
