At the end of the 1920s the greater part of the DRG"s pent-up demand for new purchases was covered by two-axle compartment cars. From 1925 on procurement concentrated on four-axle express train passenger cars. Starting in 1928 new passenger cars were developed that were intended for the new train classification "Eilzug" ("fast passenger train"). Different prototypes were built that already had the major features of the subsequent production models: center aisle, open seating areas, all steel construction, Görlitz design trucks with a 3,000 mm / 9 ft. 10-1/8
