Product description
Model: Era II. The locomotive has a die-cast metal frame and body. It has an NEM digital connector. 3 axles powered. 2 traction tires. The locomotive has NEM coupler pockets. The headlights / marker lights change over with the Swiss code Length over the buffers 230 mm / 9-1/16".
This model is available in a 3-rail AC version in the Märklin assortment under item no. 39562.

Prototype information
The SBB needed a heavy, particularly powerful locomotive able to master steep grades on a route with many curves for freight service on the Gotthard route. Locomotives were developed in the class Ce 6/8 III that entered railroad history with the nickname "Crocodile" due to their striking appearance. The striking articulated design of these units fulfilled the long standing requirement for trouble-free transport of freight over the Gotthard. Since improvements were continuously applied to these locomotives, they were later authorized for 75 km/h / 47 mph as the class Be 6/8 III. The fascination of the green and brown "Crocodiles" in the prototype and the model remains right up to this day.
